Andrej OstermanGrow Up!

By constructing specific visual compositions Andrej Osterman is mostly represented by big-format images with very precise formal solutions based on manipulation in post-production. His conceptual premises are oriented towards the questioning of modern social interrelations, rising mass consumption and the impact of mass media on broader society. Therefore he compares the relations between artificial and automatised urban world and almost untouched nature. The Grow Up! series directly alludes to formal experimentation with the medium and manipulation of the image. Thus the artist influences its perception. Osterman places ambiguous objects, like plastic toys as simulations of reality, into certain landscapes and therefore comments on inevitable interlacing of urban and natural environments. Although his view is often very common, it obtains certain surreal connotations thanks to conscious and deliberate traces of imperfection in the manipulated images – therefore his photographs indicate somewhat utopian or dystopian interpretations.
